Hello to all readers!
We have been very busy during the month of May. Both our student social coordinator and our student representative have been doing their internships, which means they haven’t been able to be on campus as much.
During May, our president has been involved in the recruitment process for a new rector, as Håkan Phil, our current rector, will be stepping down. It will be exciting to see who gets the position.
Between May 7–10, three quarters of the executive committee (AU) were in Skövde attending the Swedish National Union of Students’ general assembly (SFSFUM). Student unions from all over Sweden gather there to discuss and make decisions about student politics on a national level. We also had some time to enjoy ourselves in the evenings, it was a very rewarding weekend.
On May 11, the public speaking club Toastmasters visited the university and hosted an event together with us. It was a very rewarding and fun event focused on rhetoric and public speaking, and we would gladly host it again during the autumn semester.
We also attended the university’s day on May 21. During the event, Kristianstad University held its very first doctoral graduation ceremony for PhD students who completed their doctoral studies at HKR. Our president also gave a beautiful speech that moved many people in the audience.
The university also organized the HKRRus on May 27, where we from the student union stood along the course while participants ran or walked, handing out water to everyone struggling in the heat.
Since many of our international students will soon be returning home for the summer, we took the opportunity to organize a “Midsummer Potluck” so they could experience one of Sweden’s, in my opinion, best traditions. The evening offered great food and, of course, mud chocolate cake, whipped cream, and strawberries.
Our Kickoff for new students in September is also starting to approach. A lot of the planning needs to be completed before summer, so much of our time in the office has been dedicated to preparing for it. We are very optimistic and believe this orientation will be one of the best yet!
Now go out and enjoy the sunshine, and the final “super important” post of the semester will be coming in June!
