Kristianstad Student Union (KSK) represents all students at Kristianstad University. Four full time remunerated three full time employees and more than 100 non-profit working students work actively to uphold the education quality at HKr, and sees to your interests as student. KSK has two main fields of work:, Education Monitoring and Student Social Work.

Education Monitoring
Most of the fee goes to Utbildningsbevakning, which means that the Student Union (KSK) is monitoring all fields of education at HKr, to make sure that the quality is kept at a high standard. Utbildningsbevakning consists out of two parts. The first part is Student Representatives. In every board at HKr, students (through KSK) are voting members to make sure that every decision made at HKr is influenced by students. The second part is KSK Education Committee, that works both to help students deal with conflicts with HKr and other study related issues, and to lobby for improvements in education at HKr. If you have a problem it is easier to solve it with KSK by your side than alone.

KSK also work nationwide with Student Issues in SFS (United Student Unions in Sweden) where the focus is to work with the Department of Education.

Student Social Work
Student Social issues are Student loan issues, insurances, scholarships, communications, housing and discounts. But there is another side to Student Social Work: KSK work hard to make your stay here the best possible. KSK is arranging parties, concerts, sittningar (dinner with singing before a student disco), sport tournaments, pub and disco nights, Spex (student theatre), trips and other social activities.

Member Meeting
KSK highest deciding body is the Member Meeting. At the Member Meeting all students can vote and suggest issues, and all major issues concerning students are decided here. Member Meetings are held at different times during the year, with each Meting having a certain theme. In March there is the Election Meeting where the Union board is elected for upcoming year (June 1st - May 31st). In May there is the Annual Meeting, where among other things the Union Fee is set, and statutory issues are decided.
  Besides those Member Meetings are held whenever a major issue is brought up. Every student are entitled to write motions to a Member Meeting, and every motion is to be decided at the Member Meeting.

Student Union Board
When the Member Meeting is not gathered, The Student Union Board are the highest deciding body. All students are entitled to write motions to a Board Meeting, and every motion is to be decided at the Board Meeting.

Committees (Utskott)
The Committees is the heart of Student Union activity and there are four of them: Education Committee Information Committee, Social Committee and Sexmästeriet (that run the pub/disco).

Sections (Sektioner)
Under the KSK umbrella four independent organizations called sections are gathered, representing students from different Education Fields at HKr: Chrisp (Teachers), KING (Engineers) Cefyrekon (Economics, Business Administration & Gastronomy) and Fluorenso (Health Care). Each section has a member in the Student Union Board, and all sections has Offices in the Student Union Building.

Accommodation
It is highly recommended that you already have a place to live BEFORE you arrive on Campus. Be informed that the Student Union or Kristianstad University does not have student residences and cannot be responsible to find you accommodations.

4. Print out the Housing Guarantee form you find here

5. You must actively search for housing with the local housing companies as well as the private renters and fill out the form.

6. If you have not received housing within 30 days of registration, sign the housing guarantee form and send it to: Bostadssamordnare, Kristianstad Studentkår, Stridsvagnsvägen 8A, 291 39 Kristianstad, and you will be offered accommodation . The municipality then has 30days to provide you with accommodation.

This is how Kristianstad’ s housing guarantee works!

• The housing guarantee is built upon your involvement. First you must register in the housing registry. Then you must actively search for housing with the local housing companies as well as the private renters and, if you have not received housing after 30 days, the guarantee goes into effect. In order to show that you have been active and searched for housing you must fill out the housing guarantee form with the contact you have had.

• If you have not received an offer for housing within 30 days of registering of the housing form you should, assuming that you can prove you have actively searched for housing, be given housing under the guarantee. The municipality then has 30 days to provide you with accommodation.

• The housing guarantee is valid only for those who are not already registered in the municipality of Kristianstad. Those who are may register for the guarantee, but your application will not be processed until after November 1.

• Housing offered should be a room suited for a student, apartment or a share in an apartment. You can also be offered youth housing if you are under 30. Even another apartment, share in a house or other solutions can be available.

• All offers of housing occur in order of application.

• Housing offered shall lie within the municipality of Kristianstad as well as within the operation of local bus lines.

• Housing offers’ annual cost may not exceed 36,000 SEK, according to 2007 exchange rates.

Types of housing
There are three different types of housing for students:

Corridor
A quick and fun way to adjust to the student life is to live in a corridor. In the corridor you have your own small room with your own door. You often have a toilet in the room, as well as a shower. Everone in the corridor shares a kitchen and a common living room. You should bring your own kitchen appliances and tools. Corridor life will give you many positive memories.

Own apartment
Would you prefer a calmer student life? Then your own apartment is preferable. Older students usually move into such apartments. In the apartments there is an available kitchen and pantry as well as toilet and shower. You can of course even live in an apartment that is not classified as a student apartment, but then you do not have priority as a student.

Share an apartment
Another possibility is to share a larger apartment with some friends. This way you can reduce expenses and enjoy the fellowship of living with others.
